Bolt Bus

Bolt Bus is a great alternative for business travelers who need to move between Washington, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York or Boston. Bolt Bus generally has clean, new buses, free WiFi, good leg room, and reserved seating. It’s got amazing prices such as $15 for a one-way ticket between New York City and Boston.

Tickets can be purchased online up to two hours before departure. Bolt Bus will email you a confirmation and boarding pass. You can use the car service within Manhattan, as well as to the airports.  They service five boroughs, and credit cards are accepted. ZipCar

For drivers convenience you can have an EZ Pass, IPod hook-up, gas card that works at almost any gas station and a text message to remind you where you have booked the Zipcar. You get 180 miles of driving per reservation. The gas card is kept in the windshield visor and a smart card which means you wont have keys to carry around with you. Car prices vary but can start at 8$ per hour. You’ll get short notice airport pick ups, and you can also reserve zip cars in different cities.You just have to pay a $25 application fee or a $50 yearly fee.

You also have to follow 6 simple rules to be able to use zipcar.  They’re pretty standard like returning on time and keep it clean and so forth.  This is a great thing not only for us customers but for society in general.  Think about it.  ZipCar is revolutionizing the way we think about automobiles.  As the strive for urban density continues and people are becoming more cognizant of environmental issues,  this car allows us a very good reason to not own our own car.

Walking through the Chelsea Market is a lovely experience. This is a great place for grocery Shopping, restaurants, and other assorted Shopping. The ambiance is dark and gloomy but the lights from all the retailers and restaurants brighten up the place. They have everything to appease all walks of life. Fine dining, desserts, wines, seafood market, etc. This place is perfect when it’s raining outside because everything is indoors.

Theres a large variety of  different shops such as Fat Witch Bakery, Eleni’s, Chelsea Wine Vault, The Lobster Place, a specialty Italian store and much more.

Forever 21 is a cheap women’s clothing and jewelry shop. Its filled with a very trendy type of clothing. This two leveled store has plenty of things that aren’t terribly expensive, with most things costing under $20, so if you are in a crunch for something that night that is cute and new, go here.

The sizes are also more realistic here than most typical American places, from sizes XS to XL. The accessories are awesome too. This place has tons of options on shoes and bags to match plenty of outfits. Again, cute stuff you can get for the moment and a decent price.

This place is considered a tiny store but with adorable items at very reasonable prices. The dresses here are typically $20, compared to other stores which shall remain nameless where you could easily drop $100 per dress. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a good selection on handbags and shoes. Also T-shirts, hats, jewlery, mens shirts, and pants.

A $16 hairbrush with a funky design, a mini stapler with a hen design, giant calculator or pens shaped like little ballerinas,  I-pod docking stations shaped like giant lego blocks, and all sorts of household and office gadgets you would never imagined you would need!

They have more clothes for guys than girls but this is a definite spot to check out. They have an awesome selection of sneakers, real sweet styles and really good prices. They also always have great music playing to make your shopping experience that much more enjoyable.

This store has tons of hoodies, jeans, and shirts. Nike’s ranging from $45 – $250, depending on exclusivity. Royal Elastics for $95, and get this, tax is not charged if it’s under $110.

Also, friendly customer service is offered in each section of the store. Hopefully the airbrush/painter is present the next time you visit. He will customize Air Force Ones and Dunks right before your eyes.

Old Navy
This Old Navy is surprisingly clean and spacious. There are always enough people around if you need help. Their sale space is enormous and generally well kept, and clearly sorted by size. This is probably going to be the best Old Navy to shop at because of the huge amount of inventory on 4 floors, including a bargain basement with very cheap, and inexpensive clothes & accessories.

The clothes are comfortable, and they fit nice. The style would be considered classic and hip. Always offering affordable prices for basic generic clothing, old navy is a good place for t-shirts, sweats, and simple casual wear.  Their workwear is more on the cheap side but is also decent.

Girlprops is an awesome store filled with tons of cheap, fun, funky jewelry and accessories. Everything is big, blinging, plastic, dazzling… they have feather boas, flamboyant hats, and kitchy sun glasses. Inexpensive indeed (rings for $1.99 ) but the selection is limited.  Apart from rings, Girlprops also sells funky necklaces, sequence tops, and leopard hats and keychains. This is a great place for all women but definitely a store more for a younger hip style.

Here you’re going to be dealing with discounted shoes in massive quantities,  Prices are fabulous here. It’s a great place to go if you have a general idea of what you need but aren’t set on some picky fabrication of your imagination. It’s always fun to browse through the clearance racks. You can definitely find some out-of-the-ordinary ways to dress your feet.

Accessories and bags are available here. Less of a selection for men, but sufficient. You would need plenty of time when you’re in this place. It’s not a pop in pop out type of deal.  You can go straight to the sales racks and find some amazing designer brand shoes for less than 30 dollars. If you are living on a budget, this place is for you.

Alphabet City Wine Co.
This is a favored wine store in the city.  Its small and the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable.  They have a great variety of carefully picked wines. More importantly, they are really reasonably priced and you can always get a good bottle for under $15. The selection of affordable wines range from 10 to 20$.

The interior design is pretty cool too and very cozy (old couches, rugs, etc.)You’ll almost want to pop open your bottle and stay a while.

This store sell various items, from beauty care, to household items, to clothes.  And all brand names!  No need to go to Macy’s for your expensive dish set, just go to Lot Less for the same thing but at a fraction of a cost! Their selection of products is really good. There are often things that I hadn’t seen in other stores. And they have three different locations.

The truth is, your best bet to get a good deal is to book the stay in advance, and don’t stay at a place that is right in the middle of all the tourism, like Times Square. The further away from Times Square you get, the cheaper the Hotels will be. Everywhere in Manhattan is walkable, so even if you’re a couple of blocks away from the area you want to visit, it won’t be a big deal to just walk there.

Another way to get a great deal on Cheap New York City Hotels would be to stay at some of the lesser known hotels, rather than the larger name ones. Of course the overall quality of the rooms might not be the same, but I have yet to encounter a bad room in New York City.

Second Home on Second Avenue

• This is one of my favorite places to stay. It is located at 221 Second Avenue, between 13th and 14th streets. They have different themed rooms, such as Tribal, Carribean, Peruvian, Modern, and more. Prices range from $80-$150 per night.

Union Square Inn

• Very nice place that always has some friendly, and interesting people staying there. The rooms themselves are pretty big, in comparison to other rooms across the city, so that’s always a plus. It is very close to Union Square. It is located at 209 East 14th street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues. Prices range from $90 to $150 per night.

SoHotel

• This little place has laid claim to be the oldest hotel in the entire city, and it could very well be true. The rooms are small, but cozy. This hotel is mainly great because of its location, which happens to be right in the heart of SoHo. It’s very close to Chinatown, Little Italy, and SoHo itself. Located at 341 Broome street, and rooms start at $93 per night.

Cosmopolitan Hotel

• One of the newer hotels looking to cash in on people looking for cheap rooms. They have about 120 rooms, which are small to medium in size, and are always very neat, and clean. Great place to stay if all you need is to sleep. They do also have larger rooms upon request, which are also excellent 2 level mini lofts which start at $129 per night. This hotel is located at 95 West Broadway.

Chelsea Inn

• This place has the cheapest rooms I have run into, with rates starting at $79 for a single room. The furniture in these rooms looks like it came from a flea market, which adds a nice touch to the decor of the room. Located at 46 West 17th Street, between 5th and 6th avenues.

There you have it, Cheap New York City Hotels at its best and cheapest.

Parking Tips

• Pay close attention to the street signs. There are different regulations, and rules for many avenues and streets in New York City, so make sure to read them carefully to avoid tickets, and towing. There are many streets that only allow commercial parking, and you will be ticketed for this.
• Parking is always free on sundays. While this is great, this just means that there will be more people competing for the same spots.
• Make sure you are at least 15 feet from any fire hydrants. You will be ticketed for this.
• Don’t forget about street cleaning, which happens twice every week. One side is cleaned on each day, and there will be signs indicating when that’s happening. A ticket for one of these violations can cost you up to $65.00
• Don’t double park. Forgetting the fact that it could end up getting you a ticket, it clogs up the streets and creates more traffic, which we want to avoid.
• Watch out for street parking meters. If the meter is broken, you will not get a ticket. If you do happen to get one, take a picture of the broken meter, and your car, then just bring it to court with you and it will most likely get dismissed. The fee for each parking meter will be posted directly on it. There are near 50,000 parking meters in New York City, so be careful. Also, please note the maximum time you can park at a meter.
• Best places to find street parking are going to be quieter streets. This has mostly proven to be true for me. The heavily populated avenues will be clogged with people, and most of the time, all the spots will be taken. I would personally look on the far west, and far east parts of Manhattan, as they will most likely provide the cheapest, and best places for parking.
• If you absolutely can’t find a spot, start looking for parking garages, as they will be your best bet for cheap parking in new york city.
